HYDERABAD: Pakistan Medical Association has demanded Sindh chief minister and divisional and district administrations take necessary steps to prevent growing incidents of harassment and manhandling of doctors in Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).

At a hurriedly-called meeting of the office-bearers of the association here on Friday, president of its Hyderabad chapter Dr Agha Taj noted that a few days back heirs of a patient attacked doctors in intensive care unit at the LUH which was highly condemnable.

The meeting regretted that doctors and paramedics who were front-line soldiers in the ongoing fight against coronavirus and were discharging their responsibilities round the clock were being routinely attacked and intimidated.

It appreciated the chief minister’s efforts for provision of healthcare facilities to the patients of coronavirus but deplored the fact that doctors had not been provided any facility since the day the pandemic broke out, while incidents of attack and manhandling of healthcare officials had become the order of the day.

It said that health department had been informed in writing about the recurring shameful incidents but no steps had been taken yet to protect doctors and paramedics.
