MIRPURKHAS: A toddler was electrocuted and her uncle was injured trying to save her from severe electric shock from a high voltage cable passing within reach over the rooftop of their house in Siyal Colony on Monday.

According to neighbours, four-year-old Allah Bachai climbed on the rooftop of the house and came within reach of 11,000kV high-tension line which was passing low over the roof. Her uncle Shah Baig Jhandeer rushed to save her and sustained severe injuries in the effort, they said.

The toddler and her uncle were rushed to civil hospital where the child was pronounced dead on arrival and the uncle was admitted to surgical ward, they said.

The area people and heirs of the girl carried the body to district and sessions court and held a demonstration, demanding justice by registration of case against officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company.

They said that they had made several complaints to Hesco officers concerned about the high-tension wire passing low over the roof but they did not pay heed to their requests.

However, they dispersed peacefully after Mirpurkhas District Bar Association president Jan Ali Junejo and Shoukat Ali Rahimoon advocate met them and assured them of justice.

Later, Mohammad Pathan lodged a case against line superintendents and officials of Hesco Hirabad subdivision under Section 193 at Gharibabad police station, accusing them of criminal negligence which resulted in the death of his granddaughter and injuries to her uncle.
