KARACHI: A mother of two was shot dead allegedly by her husband in Machhar Colony on Monday, police said.

They said 25-year-old Saima was attacked by her husband after a quarrel. The couple, they said, tied the knot some seven years ago but their relations remained strained for the past couple of years for unknown reasons.

“The neighbours said that they heard the couple shouting at each other,” said Inspector Azam Rajpar, SHO Docks police station. “After a few minutes they heard a single gunshot. They also saw Abdul Salam, the husband of the woman and alleged killer, running from home after the firing. They later found the body of Saima in a pool of blood at home and informed the police.”

The police remained unable to trace the suspect but said that raids were being conducted for his arrest. The body was handed over to the parents of the victim after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi, said Mr Rajpar.
