PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police department has planned to procure uniform, vehicles and security and communication equipment worth Rs1.608 billion for the force in the merged tribal districts during the current financial year.

A statement issued here on Thursday also revealed that the police department was acquiring 413 kanals of land for the construction of 28 police stations, 54 check posts, offices of the counter terrorism department and Special Branch in seven tribal districts formerly known as Fata.

Measures for the capacity building of the police in tribal districts came under discussion during a meeting chaired by inspector general of police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi here.

The participants discussed the police establishments in ex-Fata, infrastructure and building, training plan, extension ofBDU, Special Branch and CTD, establishment of DRCs, PAL, and issuance of driving licences.

They were informed that there were 3,305 vacancies and the process to fill them would be decided soon.

The officials said professional training of Khasadar and Levies personnel would be completed within three years for which training facility had already been identified.

They said Rs450 million from the Rs7.377 billion approved under the umbrella PC-I had already been released for the purchase of land for the construction of police establishments in tribal districts.

The meeting decided to ensure the best policing practices in the region in line with the people’s expectations.

The officials agreed that the much-needed peace and tranquility restored in the province due to the sacrifices of the people and security forces would be maintained at all costs.

The police chief said all available resources would be utilised to enhance the professional capabilities of the personnel and strengthen the police system in line with the traditions and importance of the area.
