QUETTA: The Inspector General of Frontier Corps (South), Maj Gen Sarfaraz Ali, met a cross-section of society on Wednesday and praised them for extending cooperation to the Balochistan government in distribution of relief and food items among daily-wagers affected by the lockdown.

“Although the lockdown has disrupted normal life, philanthropists and social welfare organisations deserve praise for assisting the government in its efforts to reach out to the needy,” Maj Gen Sarfaraz said.

He said the Frontier Corps was taking measures to reopen the border with Iran because the closure had badly affected the people living in towns near the border, “People have reciprocated the efforts of Frontier Corps to reach out to them and this has enabled us to make a contribution to Balochistan’s progress.”

The IGFC (South) stressed the need for promoting online education in the province to offset the academic loss following the lockdown, offering the Frontier Corps’s assistance to the Balochistan government.

“We have been in touch with the Pakistan Telecommunication (PTCL) and other companies in order to expand internet service across the province, particularly in remote areas,” the major general added.
