LAHORE: The number of people succumbing to coronavirus in Punjab has reached 28 with five more people losing their lives during the last 24 hours.

Of the four, two patients of Covid-19 died in Multan and one each in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Gujrat, according to the official figures released on Wednesday by a spokesperson for the health department.

Further sharing break-up of the casualties, he said, 12 patients have died in Lahore, seven in Rawalpindi, three in Multan, two each in Rahim Yar Khan and Gujrat and one each in Bahawalpur, Jehlum and Faisalabad. He said 272 patients of the virus have recovered so far, while condition of 12 admitted to various hospitals and quarantine centres was serious.

Meanwhile, 160 more people tested positive for the virus across the province on Wednesday, including 99 members of the Tableeghi Jamaat. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Punjab has reached 3,016.

Of these, two were prisoners in Bhakkar, taking the toll of infected inmates in Punjab’s jails to 91.

Number of Tableeghi Jamaat’s infected members reaches 1,091

With 99 new cases, the total number of Tableeghi Jamaat members isolated across Punjab jumped to 1,091. Of these, 33 were reported from Rahim Yar Khan and 30 from Bahawalpur quarantine centres, according to the official figures.

As many as 12 preachers tested positive for coronavirus at the Raiwind Markaz of the Jamaat where the total number of patients has reached 484.

Moreover, 57 new cases were reported among other citizens from across the province, including 31 in Rawalpindi where the total number of positive cases is 118 now.

GUJRAT: A 30 years old expatriate Pakistani who died of the coronavirus infection at the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital here on Wednesday had returned from Spain recently.

Hailing from Beer Kharana village near Kharian, ‘KS’ was admitted to the ABSTH on March 26 after he tested positive.The hospital administration said the deceased was asthmatic due to which his condition could not get stable.
