(EDITORIAL) A remarkable study of the economics of Pakistan has been produced by two veteran authorities in connection with the Sapru enquiry and we hope the authorities of the Muslim League would take steps to publicise the findings on a wide scale. Sir Homi Mody and Dr. John Mathai have gone into the question of the solvency of Pakistan and come to the conclusion that from that standpoint Pakistan is a perfectly feasible proposition. Novices and tyros often glibly declare that Pakistan has not been “defined” and that in any event the separation of Muslim homelands into separate States would result in the ruin of those areas.
Sir Homi Mody is one of our foremost industrialists, while as a scholar and as an economist connected with long-term planning Dr. John Mathai is acknowledged to be an authority. It will be remembered that a sub-committee consisting of Sir Homi Mody, Mr. N.R. Sarkar and Dr. John Mathai, had been asked by the “Conciliation Committee” to examine the probable consequences of separation and the stability of Pakistan once India is partitioned.
