ALMOST 10 days remain in the Sindh-government ordered lockdown deadline. The provincial government is to review the situation around April 14 to see how Sindh has fared in its efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

The people on the other hand and especially the poor are faring badly. I can speak for my family. We spent around Rs 13,000 in buying provisions which hopefully should last for the next fortnight. This however, does not include luxuries like meat or fruit. I shudder at the thought of how the common man is faring.

How the situation is being handled by the provincial government is also an anomaly. A large superstore in Nazimabad is open during the day and large crowds are to be seen. On the other hand, small neighbourhood bakeries and grocery stores are not allowed to function unhindered.

The Sindh government and city authorities need to look into the issue.
