KARACHI: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and the man who initiated the idea of Pakistan Super League in 2016, is ecstatic that finally the entire league is being staged in Pakistan.

Talking to this correspondent, Sethi richly credited PSL teams’ owners, adding that his small team pulled the project off despite hardships.

“It was a passionate and motivated team effort by fifteen handpicked PCB employees, top to bottom. There were huge problems and difficulties but everyone worked day and night to make it happen,” Sethi recalled.

“The franchise owners were an integral part of the project. They personally led from the front. I am greatly indebted to all these people.”

Sethi, as PCB and PSL chief, oversaw the inaugural edition of the league staged in the UAE and later the league gradually returned to Pakistan in following editions.

Sethi paid tribute to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and incumbent Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa for their role in the success of PSL and its coming to Pakistan.

“Without Nawaz Sharif’s goodwill and Gen Bajwa’s personal support, it could not have happened,” Sethi said.

“Good luck and best wishes for all. I pray the [PSL] tournament goes off without a mishap to showcase Pakistan and bring joy to Pakistanis. And may the best team win,” Sethi concluded.
