SAHIWAL: The federal government is running Rs300 billion development programmes in the agriculture sector under the National Agriculture Emergency Programme.

This was stated by PTI leader Jahangir Tareen who was here on Thursday to inaugurate the Phase II of the National Programme on Water Management.

He said under this programme four million acre feet water would be saved and agriculture revenue would go up by Rs133 billion annually. He said enhancement of water productivity at the farm level was the best solution to meet the challenges of water scarcity in Punjab and Sindh.

Punjab Water Management DG Malik Akram said 520 water courses would be improved and 280 water ponds would be developed in Sahiwal district under the programme.

He also distributed laser land-levelers among farmers in village 69/4-R.
