GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) on Saturday warned of landslides and snow avalanches during the next five days because of clear weather, which has given rise to the temperature.

Residents living in the areas prone to landslides and snow avalanches have been asked to shift to safe places to avoid any disaster.

According to a press release issued here, the GBDMA in collaboration with other institutions was working on rehabilitation of the affected people.

It said that work was underway on clear the roads of snow and mudslides to restore communication links among the snow-bound areas.

The GBDMA and FWO have cleared roads of snow, including KKH, Gilgit-Skardu, Gilgit-Ghizer, Astore and Ghanche roads.

Also, GB chief secretary Khuram Shahzad chaired a meeting in Gilgit, where a strategy was devised to ensure rehabilitation of the snow-affected people in upper parts of the region.

Meanwhile, Commander FCNA Maj-Gen Ehsan Mehmood Khan visited the avalanche-affected village of Thalli Bala in Minimarg area of Astore, met the effected families and the elders of the area.

He extended ration and financial assistance to the affected families.

Two persons were killed and five injured when a snow avalanche struck the village.
