OKARA: A student of the English department of the University of Okara (UO) was run over by a speeding car on GT Road on Friday afternoon.

Saeed Anwar, a first semester student of MA English, was travelling on GT Road to village 17/4L after university, but was hit by a car and killed on the spot.

BOOKED: Nine people were booked for attacking a house in an attempt to recover their relative who allegedly married a man against their wishes, resulting in injuring a member of the house.

A first information report lodged by complainant Sayyed Zill-i-Hussain stated that he was at home with his family in Basti Kaysa, some 30km north of the city, when nine armed men, including Sarwar, Ansar, Mazhar and Yousaf, barged in, overpowered his wife, Muqaddas Bibi, and tried to kidnap her at gunpoint. Their accomplices Ali Sher, Ghulam Rasool and three others stood guard.

The complainant offered resistance at which the assailants opened fire, injuring Hussain’s nephew, Ahmad Shah, with a bullet.

Meanwhile, villagers gathered at the spot and the assailants managed to escape. The injured was shifted to DHQ hospital by Rescue 1122.

A case under sections 324, 148 and 149 of the PPC was registered at Ravi police station.
