LARKANA: Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), Larkana campus, on Monday launched week-long social activities and an awareness campaign on campus.

It would continue till Dec 14, encompassing five important segments of life — environment, women empowerment, education, health and training programmes, said SZABIST head Prof Dr Zahida Abro.

She said the aim was to involve students and ensure their interaction with leaders in different chosen fields so that the comprehensive idea of creating awareness among the masses could be disseminated in society. The clothes collected by students would be distributed among the needy during the campaign, she said.

Students on Monday morning, carrying banners and placards, held a walk from the main campus. People representing different shades of life joined the walk.

The head of the campus said that during the campaign, a tree plantation drive would also be launched and in coordination with the forest department, students would plant tree saplings in schools, on roadsides and in parks.

Regarding women’s empowerment, speakers drawn from different sectors of life would be invited in the seminars on campus, she said.

On the launching day, a seminar on road safety was held where the personnel of National Highways and Motorways police spoke at length about road safety measures.
