ISLAMABAD: The police succeeded in submitting challans only in 390 incidents of heinous crime in the court of law for trial so far this year.

Statistics available with Dawn said a total 2,291 cases were reported hence the investigation ratio almost stood at 18pc.

The statistics said about 1,047 cases were still under investigations and 254 cases untraced, while 253 cases were cancelled this year, the statistics said.

Moreover, the police arrested 1,512 out of 3,702 suspects wanted to police in connection with 2,190 cases.

Besides, police recovered cash and valuables worth Rs120million out of Rs823million looted or stolen this year.

The police traced 23 out of 97 murder cases and submitted challans in the court, the statistics said.

Out of total 186 incidents of attempted murders the police submitted challans in 93 cases.

In capital, 487 incidents rape took place but the police completed investigation in 70 cases, the data said.

Robbers looted cash and valuables worth Rs206million in 402 incidents of robberies, the data said.

Burglars stole cash and valuables worth Rs187million in 262 day and night burglaries and completed the investigation in 43 cases.

Culprits also stole cash and valuables worth Rs19million in 67 activities of street crime and completed investigations in 19 incidents, the statistics said.

Auto thefts lifted 762 vehicles -- 337 cars and 425 motorcycles -- from capital, the statistics said, adding 445 incidents are under investigations, while 67 cases of car and 158 cases of motorcycles remained untraced.

According to Public Relation Office of the Capital Police, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar on Wednesday directed all police officials to launch an effective crackdown on anti-social elements, drug pushers, proclaimed offenders and land grabbers.

During a meeting the IGP reviewed the performance of all zonal officers and appreciated those performing well.

He directed all police officials to complete investigation in cases and submit their challans in courts at the earliest.

He directed all police officials to make efforts to curb street crime and appealed the citizens to cooperate with police in efforts against anti-social elements.

The IGP directed all police officials to improve their performance by effectively combating crime and ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders.

He asked police officials to take effective steps to control crime and adopt professional as well as responsible attitude to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
