QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) has termed the reported arrest of four Baloch women in Awaran a direct attack on traditions of Baloch people.

Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Tuesday, BNP-M acting president Abdul Wali Kakar said it was beyond their comprehension as to why the provincial government did not take steps against those who were involved in the Awaran incident.

He demanded formation of a high-level committee to investigate the incident.

He claimed that the four Baloch women were picked up from their homes without showing any warrants and put behind bars.

The BNP-M leader said his party would protest against the Awaran incident across the province on Dec 7.

“This is an unconstitutional and inhuman act which we cannot tolerate at any cost,” Mr Kakar said. “This incident can worsen the situation in Balochistan,” he added.

The BNP-M leader said that a day after the four women were picked up from their home at night, they were presented before media personnel in the presence of Levies and police personnel. Some weapons were also shown to the media and it was claimed that they belonged to the arrested women.

He said the Awaran incident was against traditions of Islam and democratic values. Balochistan Assembly member and BNP-M leader Sana Baloch said that the suspicious arrest of women in Awaran was a conspiracy to disturb the situation in Balochistan.

The legislator said a democratic government should resolve issues, but the situation in Balochistan was going from bad to worse. Sana Baloch said that the Balochistan government was being run through Twitter.

MPAs Malik Nasir Shahwani and Akbar Mengal and other BNP leaders Abdul Rauf Mengal, Sajid Tareen and Musa Baloch were also present on the occasion.
