THIS is apropos the letter ‘Karachi commissioner’ (Nov 5). The writer has correctly pointed out that by merely installing a few signboards like ‘Uptown’, ‘Downtown’ emblazoned in brass, Karachi commissioner cannot beautify a totally devastated city.

It looks like a half-hearted attempt to bring a change in the city. It is no exaggeration that almost all public parks in Karachi are in a deplorable condition.

Aziz Bhatti Park, for example, is in a pathetic shape. It looks as if we as a nation have lost our aesthetic sense. The horticulture department may exist but only on paper.

Karachi has become a garbage dump, while we see overflowing gutters, potholes on roads and utterly chaotic traffic.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, cantonment boards and Defence Housing Authority have turned a blind eye to the litter all across the city.

The beach is the filthiest. Packs of rabies-infected dogs can be seen in every locality.

Karachi needs a huge operation to bring back its lost glory.
