LAHORE: A man who returned from Saudi Arabia recently was allegedly shot dead during a robbery at his house in Sundar on Wednesday.

Identified as Arif Ali, 40, the deceased was a resident of Mohlanwal and had returned to the country to be with his family. Quoting his family, a police official said that four suspects had forced their entry into their house in the wee hours of Wednesday and held Ali and his family members at gunpoint.

The official claimed the suspects misbehaved with some family members while searching the house. On finding the suspects rude, Ali resisted and one of the robbers shot at and injured him seriously, he added.

They later fled from the scene with looted items, the family said, adding that Ali was rushed to a local hospital but died on the way.

Police started an investigation into the incident after lodging a case against the unidentified suspects.

In another incident, scores of locals of Manga Mandi lodged a protest after a woman died due to alleged negligence of doctors of a private hospital.

The protesters alleged that Farhat Bibi had delivered a baby at the hospital, but later felt severe pain. The attendants asked the duty doctor for medication. When a nurse injected her with a medicine, her condition deteriorated and she died instantly, they alleged.

They further claimed that Farhat died due to reaction from the injection and demanded criminal action against the nurse and the duty doctors of the hospital.

A police official said the family filed an application and an investigation has been launched.
