LAHORE: Renowned folk singer Shaukat Ali has been admitted to the Services Hospital after his health seriously deteriorated, his son Mohsin Shaukat told Dawn on Tuesday.

“The liver of my father has got enlarged, he has multiple medical complexities, including diabetes”, said Mohsin, adding that his father was first brought at the Punjab Institute of Cardialogy (PIC) last night because of his fast heartbeat that got settled there at the PIC.

On Tuesday morning, he said, his father was shifted to the Services Hospital.

Doctors will carry out a few tests of the singer on Wednesday (today), to determine for how many days he will remain at the hospital.

Mohsin lamented what he called callous attitude of government officials towards serious condition of his father. “No government functionary has contacted [the singer’s family] and nobody came to see him”, he regretted.

Mohsin said his father was a legendary singer of the country, but no one from the the Ministry of Information and Culture had approached his family for any help, support or even inquiring after him.

Mohsin Shaukat appealed to Shaukat Ali’s fans and people in general to pray for his early recovery.
