KARACHI: With a win under his belt, bay horse Mohallaydar stunned favourite dark bay horse Parachuter by four lengths to land the New Look Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse here on Saturday.

Promoted to next scale order IV and V following two-and-a-half lengths victory on Oct 13, the eventual winner was powered home by senior rider Raees Ahmed who celebrated his return from abroad after a long layoff.

Mare Royal Fort fell third two-and-a-half lengths away while another mare Sassy Gold completed the frame among seven starters.

Seven-year-old bay horse Beat The Clock also created quite stir when he overtook bay horse Tip Top in home stretch to post a three-length victory in the day’s feature event.

Public fancy Big Frank had to be content with third place, two-and-a-half lengths behind with mare Sweet Victory completing the frame.

Overall, turf accountants have a field day as racegoers suffered and even failed to make a break even in a five-race card.

At the outset, the day’s programme commenced when rank outsider bay horse Royal Champion pulled off first upset by posting a facile five-and-a-half lengths victory over chestnut horse Secret Of Life with favourite and debutant Zorawar occupying third place and Rukhsar completing the board.

The field was reduced to seven horses following withdrawals of three horses — Mushki, Sana Choice and Rich Venture — in the morning declaration.

Chestnut horse Lahori Saeen shocked all and sundry by making an impressive debut in the next race. The horse defeated mare Winx by five-and-a-half lengths for the honours. Dance And Dance and Dam Dama Dam followed the two in same order.

Earlier, the field of the second race was reduced to eight following withdrawal of Fast Lady and The Champion Star.

Bay horse Sultan obliged owner and punters alike by getting the better of Native Prince by four lengths to pick up spoils in the third race.

Meanwhile, trainers Zia-ur-Rehman and Shahid Mannan partnered a brace of winners apiece to excel in their cadre.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Oct 27.
