GWADAR: Speakers at a programme held here on Sunday in connection with the World Space Week stressed the need for promoting the education of science and technology in the country.

The World Space Week is observed from Oct 4 to 10 in various parts of the world.

The programme was organised by Gwadar Grammar School at the Zahoor Shah Hashmi Auditorium.

The chief guest of the event was a representative of the China Overseas Port Holding Company, Engineer Baba Dadullah Yousuf. The programme was also attended by Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Buledi, Khuda Bakhsh and Nasir Rahim Sorabi.

The speakers said that the revolution in communication was because of space technology. The trend in education was fast changing, therefore, the country needed to modernise its education system and pay more attention to the education of science and technology, they added.

There was no dearth of talent in Balochistan and the province could produce top scientists if its students were given good opportunities of education. “Students are the assets of the country,” they added.

They said focus on the education of science and technology was necessary because it would create new opportunities for young people and make them able to play a constructive role in the development of the country.

They said Balochistan was rich with natural resources. But, they added, getting modern education was necessary for using these natural resources for betterment of people.

Mr Buledi said that hard work and passion made a person able to create new things, adding that nothing was impossible if there was a dedication of doing something.

He said Gwadar was a hub of knowledge and education in Balochiastan where students from backward areas of the province came for getting modern education.
