Traffic mayhem

Published October 7, 2019

COMMUTING consumes a major chunk of a person’s time, especially those working in suburban areas.

One of the busiest intersections in Lahore is Shahdara where traffic of all types runs. Besides, encroachments by fruit sellers compound the problem. Coming from Sheikhupura, one loses about 15 minutes at this point. A few metres ahead is the Ravi Bridge. With its two narrow lanes, the incoming traffic converges into these two lanes and the result is clogging.

Still ahead, the Ring Road toll barrier has only two booths, which again snarls up traffic One loses about 25 to 30 minutes within a road span of one kilometre. The authorities must wake up and take steps to mitigate the situation.

Apart from wastage of time, a massive amount of fuel is burnt which not only costs dearly to motorists, but also contributes to environmental pollution.
