SAHIWAL: Proposed delimitation of the Metropolitan Corporation of Sahiwal has been put on public display under the recently-passed Punjab Local Government Act 2019.

Citizens have been asked to file objections or suggestions over the proposed delimitation list till Oct 14 next month. Nadeemur Rehman, Commissioner/administrator of the MCS, told Dawn the delimitation list had been displayed at different locations.

Under the proposed delimitation, the MCS geographical area has been increased from 40.09 square kilometer to 70.57 Sq Km.

Public objections invited under new delimitation list

Due to this geographical spread in existing boundaries, more villages, union councils and wards have come under the MCS jurisdiction.

Accordingly, total population on MCS area has now risen to 462,423 from the earlier 389,605. “As many as 72,818 souls have been added to the MCS jurisdiction”, Muhmmad Zaman Wattoo, District Demarcation Officer, told Dawn.

Under the new delimitation plan, the MCS now has three town committees under its jurisdiction, including Kameer, Harrapa and Tehsil Council (Sahiwal).

Earlier, Sahiwal had the status of Municipal Corporation but the last PML-N government of Mian Shahbaz Sharif upgraded it as Metropolitan Corporation headed by a mayor.

The Sahiwal municipal corporation had five surrounding villages falling in its jurisdiction but under the proposed delimitation, four more surrounding villages have come under the metropolitan.

Muhamamd Zaman Watto, Demarcation Officer, told Dawn the villages falling under the MCS are 87/6-R, 87A/6-R, 89/6-R, 89/9-L, 88/9-L, 90/9-L, 135/9-L, 135A/9-L and 94/6-R, excluding army/ air defense establishment.

Dewan Azhar, Local Government Director, told Dawn the proposed delimitation lists had been displayed at the DC office, MCS office, AC and three town committee offices. Citizens can get copy of delimitation list from the local government office.
