KARACHI: Maj Aziz Bhatti Shaheed XI beat Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed XI 61-53 in the SSB Defence Day Cup basketball tournament at Abdul Nasir Basketball Courts in Arambagh on Monday night.

Main scorers for the winners were Muhammad Furqan (28 points), Talha Amjad (18 points) and Muhammad Shabbar (14 points). For the losing side, Mujtaba Jafferi scored 18 points while Zeeshan Ali scored 16 points.

The tournament was formally inaugurated where head of Maazjee Nadeem Ahmed was the chief guest and announced that his organisation will hold a basketball tournament on an yearly basis with a view to promote the game at grass root level.

Earlier on Sunday night, three matches were decided. In the first match, Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed XI beat Naik Saif Ali Janjua Shaheed XI 52-45.

In the second match, Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed XI beat Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed XI 35-31,

In third and last match of the day, Major Muhammad Tufail Shaheed XI beat Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed XI 51-42.

Meanwhile, KBBA president Ghulam Mohammad announced that due to rain in the city and further forecast, the SSB Defence Day Cup matches have been postponed till Friday.
