PESHAWAR: MNAs Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar were released from Haripur central prison late on Friday night to a warm welcome by their supporters.

The two MNAs, who were arrested after the Kharqamar incident in May, were granted conditional bail on Sept 18 by a bench of the Peshawar High Court in Bannu for a month. The court had directed them to submit fresh petitions before expiry of that period and said that approval of their request would be subject to their ‘good behaviour’.

It took two days to complete legal formalities including submission of bail bonds to the judicial officer in Bannu, after which their release orders were issued.

The charged workers of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), including its leader Manzoor Pashteen, raised slogans on the release of Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar and garlanded them.

The two legislators were brought to Peshawar and on their way they were accorded a warm welcome near Motorway Toll Plaza. Supporters of the MNAs performed traditional ‘atnr” dance at Miramshah Bazaar. Mohsin Dawar was elected from this area.

People in a large number turned up at the residence of the MNAs.

Talking to journalists on Saturday, Mr Dawar thanked PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for raising his voice in the National Assembly for their release. He also thanked his legal team comprising Lateef Afridi, Sangeen Khan and Tariq Afghan, saying it was because of their tireless efforts that they were again among their supporters.
