PESHAWAR: A total of 43,827 candidates appeared in entrance test for admissions to the public and private medical and dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Sunday.

The entrance test was simultaneously held at 45 indoor halls at seven regional centres across the province, according to a statement issued here.

Of the total candidates appeared in the test, 17,400 were female students. The test was conducted by Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency. The 45 indoor halls of seven regional centres were set up in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat and DI Khan.

The results of the test will be announced within 24 hours by Etea and will be available on the websites of both KMU and Etea. The results will also be communicated to all the candidates individually via SMS on their mobile phones through specially-prepared software by IT section of KMU.

The statement said the test was held first time in indoor halls where a record 43,829 students appeared.

In Peshawar, 18,027 candidates appeared, 5,552 in Mardan, 6,544 in Swat, 3,259 in Malakand, 5,241 in Hazara, 2,076 in Kohat and 3,130 in DI Khan.

KMU vice-chancellor Prof Arshad Javaid said the overall arrangements for the entrance test was a tough challenge for KMU as well as Etea and the provincial government. He said the holding of the test in a well-organized and transparent manner was a great achievement of KMU and Etea.

He added that keeping in mind the increasing number of candidates and the bad weather conditions of last year, not only the number of halls was increased from seven to 45, but it was also decided that the test should be conducted in indoor halls.
