MITHI: In pursuance of an announcement by the government of Sindh, an NED University campus under the name of Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences and Technology (TIEST) is being set up in Islamkot, Tharparkar, which would start its Bachelors of Computer Science (BCS) programme from this year.

In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between the NED University of Engineering and Technology, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) and The Citizens Foundation (TCF) to commence classes at the TIEST from this year. The institute would initially be established at the TCF, Engro Campus at Islamkot unless a permanent campus is constructed near Islamkot.

SECMC chief executive officer (CEO) Syed Abul Fazal Rizvi, NED University registrar Syed Ghazanfar Hussain and TCF president and CEO Syed Asaad Ayub Ahmad signed the agreement in block 2 of Thar Coalfield near Islamkot on Monday.

The SECMC would assist, support and facilitate development of the NED varsity campus while the TCF would provide space in the existing school at Islamkot.
