NAROWAL: The knee-deep rainwater and sewage at the Govt Muslim Post Graduate College for Women inconvenience the prospective students visiting the institution these days for admissions and the teachers and other staff.

The teachers have made a ‘temporary bridge’ to reach the education block.

Sewage and stagnant rainwater plague the college after every downpour. The lawns remain full with two to three feet water due to the absence of drainage system.

More than 2,200 girls study in the college and they face a great deal of inconvenience as the roads on all the boundary walls remain covered with stagnant water. It is also a cause of filth and disease.

In many parts of the city, sewage enters the houses every time it rains. Pedestrians bear the brunt of the situation and have to wade through water.

The last rainfall in Narowal almost two weeks ago demolished the 300-foot outer wall of the college and it again collapsed after its construction on a self-help basis due to Tuesday night’s rain. New admissions to FA, FSc and ICS classes are under way and the aspiring students are finding it difficult to visit it.

The students and their parents accompanying them have to use the temporary bridge to reach the administration block.

Students Iram Hasan and Kainat said this was the biggest college of the district but it’s looking like a pond. They said the politicians who talk about making Narowal a city of universities should do something practical to solve the issue.

Govt Muslim Post Graduate College for Women Principal Najma Gardezi said she was worried about damage done to the outer wall. She said the college would reopen after 10 days after the summer vacation. She said she had informed the Education Department and the district administration about the situation and was awaiting reply.

The students and the parents have demanded that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar take immediate notice of the college situation so that the students may restart educational activities after the vacation.
