LAHORE: The workers’ representatives observed a protest day on Monday to demand the government take steps to stop rising accidents and occupational deaths of workers in various sectors in general and coal mines in Balochistan in particular.

They gathered in a meeting under the aegis of the All Pakistan Workers Confederation which was addressed by the secretary general of the confederation, Khurshid Ahmed, president Rubeena Jamil and other representatives of the workers.

They demanded the government ensure observance of safety and provision of safe and healthy working conditions for the workers.

They sought rights of the workers in the government, semi-government and private sectors in conformity with the principles of ILO conventions 87 and 98 ratified by the government of Pakistan.
