PIA plane skids off runway during landing at Gilgit airport

A passenger aircraft of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) escaped accident after it skidded off the runway while landing at Gilgit airport on Saturday.
All passengers remained safe in the incident, the airlines' spokesperson, Mashhood Tajwar, said in a statement.
He said the pilot skillfully regained control of the plane after the ATR-42 aircraft "slid off to the unpaved [area] to a minor extent during landing".
The flight PK-605 was carrying 53 people, including crew members, from Islamabad to Gilgit, according to the Gilgit deputy commissioner. The aircraft was pictured resting on its right side after coming to a halt in a grassy area next to the tarmac.
The runway at Gilgit airport was temporarily closed after the incident. When it reopened, PIA's return flight PK-608 took off for Islamabad.
PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik ordered a "transparent inquiry" into the incident, the spokesperson said.
He added that action would be taken as per aviation rules if any negligence is proven during the investigation.
The two pilots of the flight involved in the incident have been grounded till the completion of the probe, Tajwar revealed.

I travelled on that route via PIA. It is an adventurous but safe place to land. I wonder why did this happen. To me, it seems malfunction of right landing gear.

Re check all pilots and their qualifications for genuine as. In PPP and PML time, safsresshs were recruited without pilots license. Revamp PIA staff and keep those with merit.

We always love to see approaching ATRs to Gilgit airport almost every day exactly above my home at an aerial distance of about a nautical mile. Today many of our family members were in the open for a marriage ceremony and observed that the speed of the aircraft is unusually high than normal. We assume the aircraft may have an issue that controls speed.

Looks like PIA discontinued the practice of offering a sacrificial goat on the tarmac before each ATR flight, a fine trend they had started after the Junaid Jamshed crash. Well, the gods didn't take too kindly to this, so now we have today's incident. As atonement, PIA should from now on sacrifice two goats, not one, before every ATR flight. And if you value your customers' lives please do not let the practice lapse ever again.

Here we go again. Such an incident involving PIA, a preferred mode of journey to a destination favored by international and local tourist during this peak season, should be highly worrisome for those promoting tourism in the country. We definitely need a complete overhaul of all the pre requisites of opening up our most exotic tourism spots to would be visitors starting from safe journey to and from such destinations and followed up with other hospitality requirements to promote tourism as a source of income to the government and uplifting economic well being of the locals.

Why the Qatar airlines was preferred over PIA for the "AirForce One" visit to the USA.. Decaying equipment and servicing standards. A larger malaise that pervades over our entire system. But hopefully the crumbs that the PM/COAS team hopefully coax out of the USA gives us more survival time. Pakistan zindabad.
