KARACHI: Police on Tuesday said they were yet to determine the motive behind Monday’s murder of the wife of a senior faculty member of NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Officials said the investigators were still connecting the dots, but found nothing credible to confirm why Shazia Khan, wife of Professor Dr Raza Ali Khan, was shot dead near Maskan Chowrangi while driving back to her residence in the NED staff colony from a market in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block-7, where she had gone to procure grocery items.

The available evidence, including eyewitness accounts, footage of closed-circuit television cameras and objects found from the crime scene, was not convincing enough to call the incident a result of resistance against an armed robbery.

“Not yet,” replied DIG East Amir Farooqi when asked whether the police had reached a conclusion about the motive behind the murder. “The investigations are looking into every possible angle and definitely resistance against armed robbery is one of them. We hope to reach a conclusion soon.”

Ms Khan’s funeral prayers were offered at the NED University. Led by Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the funeral prayers were attended by a large number of people, including staff and students of the university and relatives of the victim.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that the corpse was recovered from bushes at an abandoned place. The police were trying to ascertain the identity of the victim.
