KARACHI: Realising the gravity of growing use of drugs among students in Karachi, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Saturday launched a helpline, 1102.

Director general of the Anti-Narcotics Force Major General Mohammad Arif Malik inaugurated the CPLC helpline at Governor House.

He expressed his resolve to curb drug infiltration. The DG ANF appreciated the efforts being made by the CPLC for the elimination of drugs.

Force commander ANF Sindh Brigadier Mansoor Ahmed Janjua, Lt-Col Abid, and senior members of central committee of the CPLC were also present at the ceremony.

Zubair Habib, chief of the CPLC Sindh, in his briefing thanked the ANF director general for his support towards the establishment of the helpline.

He said that the primary objective of this help desk was to save the society, particularly students aged between 16 and 20, from the menace of drugs.

He stated that this helpline was operational round-the-clock.

Trained operators are posted to receive and transmit information, he added.

People can call 1102 to communicate information about drug use/trade. He further said that the informer would be treated as anonymous and their particulars would be kept secret at all costs.

The CPLC chief apprehended that around 25-30 per cent students were using drugs and with passage of time, some of them become dealers of drugs as well.
