ISLAMABAD, July 23: The government has allowed import of 23 precursors (chemicals) used in the manufacturing of industrial and pharmaceutical products by the industrial consumers concerned after obtaining NOC from the ministry of narcotics control

The list of items notified by amending the import order was released here on Saturday.

According to the notification, acetic anhydride c, N-aceylanthranilic acid, ephedrine, ergometrine, ergotamine, isosafrole, lysergic acid, 3-4-methylenedionyphenyl-2-propanone, norephedrine, 1-phenyl-2-propanone, piperonal, potassium permanganate, pseudoephedrine, safrole, acetone, anthranilic acid, ethyl ether, hydrochloric acid, methyl ethyl ketone, phenylacctic acid, piperidine, sulphuric acid and toulene.

The quantity to be imported by the industrial consumers will be determined by the Central Board of Revenue and for the pharmaceutical units concerned by the ministry of health, added the notification.

The decision was taken to comply with the UN Convention against illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances 1998, so that all controlled substances will be importable by the industrial consumer concerned after obtaining an NOC from the ministry of narcotics control.
