RECENTLY, tax deductions for non-filers were increased by the government. However, I am of the opinion that banks are trying their best to encourage the feeling that whether you file tax returns or not, it does not matter.

As the banks IT systems are not in sync with the Federal Board of Revenue’s latest active taxpayer list, ultimately citizens are paying the rate of tax applicable to non-filers on withdrawals even if they are filers.

The government must take steps in this regard so that the perks of being a filer can be enjoyed by the consumer in reality.
