SAHIWAL: A suspected addict shot her 18-year-old daughter dead on her refusal to observe fast here on Thursday evening at village 71/D in Malkain Hans police precincts.

Reports said Gulzar Ahmed awoke her daughter Umme Samina at Sehr and forced her to observe fast. The girl refused to do so on health grounds. As a result Gulzar got infuriated and shot her dead. Gulzar is said to be an addict and has a criminal record. He was indicted in a criminal case and served two-year imprisonment.

Malkain Hans police have registered a case on the compliant of victim’s uncle Mukhtar.

Suicide Attempt: An on-duty woman police constable on Thursday attempted suicide by drinking petrol in Ramazan bazaar set up near Pakpattan General Bus Stand.

Reports said constable Samina attempted suicide by drinking petrol. Her male colleagues rushed towards her and snatched a petrol bottle she had consumed almost half. She was shifted to the Pakpattan DHQ Hospital for treatment.

Eyewitness said she refused to get any medication from doctors and paramedical staff.

Instead she jumped from the bed and locked herself into one of the washrooms of emergency ward. Her seniors were called who talked to her for around 30 minutes. Resultantly, she opened the washroom door and got ready to get treatment.

Police are yet to ascertain the reason for her suicide attempt.
