LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party says it won’t oppose the tax amnesty scheme introduced by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf provided it benefits the masses.

“The PTI government may launder the black money through the so-called tax amnesty scheme, but its benefit must trickle down to the common man,” PPP Punjab chapter president Qamar Zaman Kaira said here on Tuesday.

Commenting on the scheme, he alleged that the PTI was introducing the scheme for some unnamed people as benami assets had been made a blessing for some and a curse for others.

He said the country could not move forward without providing equal economic opportunities and justice for all.

Mr Kaira said adopting double standards was a bad luck for the country as on one hand joint investigation teams were being formed and references filed by the National Accountability Bureau against opposition leaders and on the other all financial crimes of some elements among the ruling alliance were being overlooked.

He warned that such double standards could lead to deprivation and hatred among the people.
