LANDI KOTAL: Three women assistant commissioners started their four weeks field training at tehsil headquarter Landi Kotal in Khyber tribal district on Wednesday.

Officials said that it was for the first time that female officials were ‘attached’ to the district administration of a tribal district. The three under-training assistant commissioners include Sana Hafeez, Gul Sheen and Shabeena Gul.

The officials appeared before media after a jirga of local administration with tribal elders about polio vaccination campaign in Landi Kotal. They, however, did not talk to journalists while Landi Kotal Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imran said that the female officials also attended the jirga as part of their training.

Later, Deputy Commissioner Mehmud Aslam Wazir told Dawn that the services academy had deputed those officials to Khyber tribal district for four weeks of field training.

He said that they would be imparted practical training about the working of deputy commissioner office in a tribal district. They would work in close liaison with assistant commissioners of Landi Kotal, Bara and Jamrud, he added.

Mr Wazir too acknowledged that it was for the first time female officials were sent to a tribal district for field training.

The officials accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imran also paid a visit to Landi Kotal Bazaar and checked the prices of essential items. It was for the first time that any female official visited the bazaar and interacted with local traders.
