Experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir has missed out on Pakistan's 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup squad announced by Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq on Thursday.

The southpaw, who famously starred in the Champions Trophy final against India two years ago, paid the price of his poor form in the past two years (just 5 wickets in last 14 ODIs). In his place, teenage pacer Hasnain, who impressed in the 2019 Pakistan Super League this year with his raw pace, has been inducted into the squad.

While Amir has not been named in the World Cup squad, he is one of two additional players — other being Asif Ali — who have been named in the 17-man squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against England in England.

"We, the selectors, the coach, and the captain have together drafted our best [possible] squad and tried to keep the Champions Trophy-winning group [intact]," Inzamam said at a press conference held in Lahore. "God willing, this team of ours will be successful."

Inzamam said that Hafeez's inclusion in the squad hinges on him proving his fitness, adding that changes can be made to the 15-man World Cup squad until May 23.

The chief selector defended the team's recent ODI performance, saying that "a severely understrength Pakistan side gave Australia a decent fight, even if they lost the series."

"It proved that we have bench strength," he claimed.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan had been whitewashed 5-0 by the Kangaroos.

The real reason you ever won the champions trophy was Junaid Khans consistency in all matches. He got you to the final more than anyone else, and took wickets throughout.

Great to see Junaid Khan and Hasnain. The latter will be the X factor while the former will be useful when the going gets tough. Shinwari is slightly unlucky but he is too one dimensional. I hope Abid Ali can shed some weight and prove his selection. He has the ability for sure.

Too many all-rounders, who can score 20-35+ and no power hitters, so under crunch this team may crumble getting close to the target. Once in blue moon, one will perform to raise false hopes. Good Luck though and best wishes.

If Amir got dropped on performance than Fakhar Zaman, Shoaib Malik and Imam-ul-Haq performances wasn't great either in recent past plus Hafeez in fit but selected and I am not sure how well he can bat in England pitches. Overall I am not too impressed with final squad but my best wishes with Pakistani team and players.

Why is Hafeez still being considered for selection? I don't see him offering any benefits to the team. It would have been much better to add an additional batsman since the batting has been very fragile over the past few months.

My playing eleven would omit Hasnain, Abid Ali, Haris Sohail and Faheem. Imad must must must come at number five, he is a proper batsman. Bowling is brilliant.

Happy for Junaid but Hasnain is being rushed which isn't the greatest thing in the world. Asif Ali and Rizwan would consider themselves unlucky and we should have taken a second wicketkeeper because we play 6 matches against England, few warm-up matches and the whole world cup which is a long tour.

Shinwari indeed deserves a place but only 15 probables are Possible. And you can rest Shaheen or Hasnain for Shinwari but personally i think Shinwari might could have replaced Hasnain but still brilliant selection.

Amir is the backbone of the Pakistan attack, his performance improves and rises in big matches. Some great players need a challenge to perform and he is one of the greats. Not to recognize his talent is poor selection.

I think Pakistan should Select Amir & Asif ali for world cup because currently Amir is the most experience bowler in the team & Asif ali is a good hard hitter who can hit boundaries end of the inning. Mohiuddin, a die hard fan of pakistan cricket from banglades.

Junaid Khan should not have been included, even though he could be a good swing bowler to perform in English conditions. Aamir, regardless of form, always does well in swinging conditions. Hasnain's inclusion doesn't merit WC spot just because he was good in PSL.

Pak will regret not having Amir in the squad. It is a gift to other teams. Don't forget, Amir single handedly won the Champions trophy for Pak by getting Kohli, Sharma and Shikkar Dhawan out, all three match winning batsmen. If one of these batsmen would have set it would have been all over for Pak. Like former captain Waqar Younis once said on the inclusion of Wasim Akram in his world cup squad that as long as Wasim is fit, he is an automatic selection. Wasim does not need to prove form as everyone knows Wasim is a match winner.

Amir is still the best bowler available in Pakistan. Pakistan will pay the price by not selecting Amir and Wahab and instead going with Junaid and Afridi who both regularly get hammered for 10 an over. We all have seen Shaheen Shah Afridi bowling at 128-130 km/h in the last 6 months and being ineffective in all forms of the game.

Wasim Akram used to take wickets for fun, in all conditions. amir cant take wickets in Dubai, in the psl and as far as odis are concerned, more than four in three years. champions trophy was won by Fakhars 100. when a team is chasing 330 they will back themselves and play shots. amir going is a blessing, and now Junaid and Shaheen can dominate things.

A wrong decision by PCB, Amir is always the wild card for Pakistan. He will get you the wickets when you needed it the most. I believe he is the only good bowler Pakistan has at the moment and it a shame that Amir is not included in Pakistani the team. I don't know what PCB is thinking. A poor decision.

@Shahid, not sure which game you've been watching. its amir whose speed has been debated and gone south. Shaheen has swing, bounce due to his height and seam. Junaid takes wickets in Dubai, seaming wickets is a cake walk for him. Best fast bowler in Asia is Junaid Khan.

I must say I’m a little surprised by the exclusion of Amir and Asif, other than that it seems like what one pretty much expected. If Pakistan Team can get to decent totals,& that’s a big “if” I think they do have one of the most potent and balanced attack. Good Luck Team Green!

Emad Wasim is not an ODI spinner, he is a T-20 player. Shoaib Malik does not deserve a place in the team, as I have said earlier Seniority does NOT matter if you cannot perform. You should have selected 1 additional spinner besides Shadab. Inzamam you might have played many world cups but you are not a sensible chief Selector. PCB needs to get rid of Nepotism and key positions indulging and promoting Nepotism. Making a fundamental mistake of not selecting an additional real spinner tells us you lack skills of a chief selector. As I said Sarfraz needed to put his foot down and select a team that will fight for him and Pakistan. You have eliminated Wahab Riaz the same way you got rid of Abdul Razzak. Keep giving opportunities to your nephew.

@Shahid, While I agree we lack pace I think getting rid of Amir was a very sensible decision. Regarding Wahab yes he should be in the team. While Husnan is fast it does not seem likely he can bowl over 5 overs. You might consider him an X factor but he lacks experience in the international circuit.

I am an Indian and naturally I will like my country to win. But I also see a pattern which I can not ignore. '92 was the only world cup with round robin league. So is 2019. In '92 Imaran Khan was the captain of Pakistan and so is in 2019 (In a way). In '83, India Won, in '87 Australia and in '92 Pakistan. In 2011-India, '15-Australia and in 19-??. If Pakistan, in fact wins, I know whom to credit ; )

@Shoaib, take out Imad? are you serious. hr plays a very vital role as a bowler, both in the start and in the middle. Also more than useful as a batsmen Flhar. you need him to get a good start. Specially with Imam as the other opener. He should not have been selected as he is not the right choice for ODii

Hussnain is a chucker who will probably get reported and will spend the rest of the WC being a tourist, real talent like Mir Hamza or Uman Qadir should have been given a chance we’ll probably be facing UQ if he’s selected for Australia.

Good, team is not anybody's personal property, every player should b drafted into team on the basis of current performance, not on the basis of past brilliances....Amir is currently out of touch and has been rightly dropped from the world cup scord

Either way it is a gamble selecting Amir or not! Definitely Amir is a better bowler in English conditions. However, his wicket taking ability has completely disappeared. However, it is worth playing him in UK in the warm games and see, he could still make the team! The worry remains the old guys, Malik and Hafeez, I have more confidence in Hafeez than Malik! He a Different attitude!

I think Rizwan, deserves a place, seriously I think Shoaib, should not be in, on the basis of his performance against Australia and generally his attitude which is very meek and disinterested! At least Hafeez has the right attitude, picking them both is a liability and very unfair to the younger players. Either way Sarfraz, will have to buck his batting. Personally I am not expecting too much from this side. Even though I am going to auK to watch and support!

PCB selectors r paving way for humiliating losses in WC by choosing the players seeing their PSL performance. No Amir means no win in WC. Bowling seems very weak. Tell me who has the ability to take wickets of Kohli. Giving Hasnain preference over Amir is completely a wrong decision. For me, there is no reason to watch this WC being PAK fan.

Very Good team selection. Some difficult decisions had to be made: Hasnain vs Shinwari was a tough call. Rizwan as a batsman probably should have made it versus Abid Ali. Top 4 should be Imam, Fakhar, Babar, Haris. That means Shoaib or Hafeez will have to sit or we play both with four bowlers and the fifth is Haris/Shoaib/Hafeez. I hope we play four seamers + Imam against India and leave out Shadab for that match. Imad could be an X factor. He bowls at 60mph which is a shade slower than the ideal speed for a swing bowler like Botham and then he can spin off the wicket.

It was long time coming...Amir's performances since after CT 2017 have been very mediocre...He did not merit a place in the team. I wonder how come his pace has come down from 147-148 kmh (in CT 2017) to pathetic 130-135 kmh??!!

@Salman, amir hasn't hit form since 2010. Or better still when a bowler like Stuart Broad walloped him for a double century ten years back on a seaming wicket. Other than being a cheat, his bowling skills are pathetic.

Forget Amir and Shinwari, I think the biggest mistake PCB have made is lack of selecting a backup wicket keeper. They should have included him. Plus, though his batting may not be the best, I would choose two from Shoaib, Hafeez and Rizwan. Rizwan will certainly perform over one of these two players. It would have been a confidence booster for Rizwan as well to play in a big tournament as he has a bright future. I also see sparks in Umar Siddiq from his performance in PSL.

A very very massive Wake-Up Call for Amir .... He shouldn't forgot his past .. We need Wicket Taker & Match Winners in the team.. Shoaib Malik , Hafeez , Amir & Imad Wasim plays for their Advertisers not for the Conutry ... Just analyze Shoaib Malik performances on crunch moments against real good oppositions..

Pakistan only has temperament for 20/20 Now best player will be Babar Azam. Only one with a bit of technique Hopefully Hafiz never makes it, because he is the master of being bunnies to any ordinary swinging bowlers in any condition Only bowler who could swing is out. Amir However, bowling will be far better than batting. If it was a bowling only World Cup, Pakistan could get into semifinal

i feel very sorry for Mohd Amir a player who has been through too many ups and downs at a very young age. Due to lack of proper guidance and mentorship he seems to have lost his way. Always very painful to see a talented player fall by the wayside. Life is tough.

Amir, on present form, a risk, is not the notable omission. The significant is Mohd. Rizwan, in form the only success (two centuries against Australia) other than Harris Sohail in the recent ODI series in UAE. Comes into the team before Hafeez and Shoaib, strengthens the middle order BUT threatens Sarfraz; his inclusion Sarfraz cannot risk.Where is the PCB and Selection Committee?

Amir will be included in the final squad sooner or later. Current bowling attack lacks experience and penetration. Inclusion of Hasnain was a little too early. As far as batting, no power hitter at number 6 or 7. No chance for this squad to move beyond the first round. At par with BAN and AFG forget about the BIG boys of the league. ENG and AUS are firm favorites but don't rule out NZ & WI. Thanks

Kohli and Sharma would rather like him to play for Pakistan. They were very proud of him, and to them, he was the best bowler in the world just the other day!

Usman Shinwari should be in the World Cup team instead of Husnan. Not sure how Husnan will bowl 10 overs, his fitness is a big question. Wahab Riaz should be in the World Cup team instead of Amir.
