GUJRANWALA, July 12: The anti-terrorism court No 1 issued the arrest warrants of former SHO inspector Zulfikar Ali Virk here on Tuesday during the hearing of Sialkot jail incident case. Judge Muhahid Mustaqim ordered that the accused be arrested and produced before the court. The case was adjourned till July 16. The former SHO had escaped from the court some two weeks ago when he was being escorted by police for production.

Sialkot civil lines SHO Muhammad Ilyas and some other police officials were booked for negligence, while six of them were later arrested at the order of DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq.

Two get death: A court handed down death sentence to two accused Asad and Tanvir in an abduction-cum-murder case here on Tuesday.

The court also awarded life term and ordered forfeiting of the accused’s property. The court acquitted the co-accused in the case, Surraya Bibi, Dr Sabir Ahmad and Ahsan, giving them benefit of doubt.

According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped a minor boy, Umer Draz, son of Nazir, and demanded Rs2 million ransom for his release. Later, they killed the boy on Aug 4, 2004, and threw his body in a drain.

SHOT DEAD: A goods transporter was shot dead while seven people were injured in a clash between members of a family over property dispute on the Hafizabad Road on Tuesday.

According to reports, a dispute over distribution of house and four trucks was going on among Akbar Ali Khokhar and his four sons.

As the situation went out of control, they opened fire on one another. As a result, Akbar Ali died on the spot while his sons — M. Nawaz, Abbas, Shahbaz Ahmad, Muhammad Sharif, grandson Shaukat Shahbaz and two passengers, Farooq and Ismail, were hurt.

They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The Baghbanpura police have registered a case and are investigating.
