HARIPUR: The much-awaited Haripur Trauma Centre became functional on Wednesday after a delay of over three years.

Minister for communications and works Akbar Ayub Khan inaugurated the facility at a ceremony attended by former provincial minister Yousuf Ayub, chairman district development advisory committee Arshad Ayub Khan, doctors and PTI workers, councillors and nazims.

The building of 40-bed trauma centre, the foundation stone of which was laid on Oct 4, 2015, was meant to be completed within 12 months, was inaugurated on Oct 10, 2017. But the health department failed to provide the machinery and required staff to it.

The minister said completed with a cost of Rs60 million, the trauma centre would be equipped with modern machinery and treatment gadgets, where at least 75 staff members, including doctors, specialists, nurses, paramedics and support staff would be available for round the clock services.

He claimed that the centre would not only be helpful for the people of Haripur but also for those travelling by GT Road between Hasanabdal and Havelian.

Akbar Ayub claimed that Haripur Trauma Centre was the second such facility in the province after the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.
