LAHORE: Samanabad police on Monday reportedly arrested a man and his wife for allegedly torturing their 10-year-old daughter over petty issues.

Suspects Sheikh Nadeem and his wife, Ayesha, used to torture minor Manahil by burning her body with an electric rod.

The police also recovered the girl with multiple burns on her body and shifted her to a local hospital where doctors confirmed the cruelty in the initial report.

A police official said some neighbours heard cries of the girl and rushed to the house where they found Ayesha subjecting the girl to severe torture.

He said Manahil was her stepdaughter and the neighbours alerted the police when they saw Ayesha inflicting torture on her.

The police recovered the girl from the house and shifted her to the hospital in a critical condition.

Manahil told the police that her stepmother and her father used to burn her body on petty domestic issues.

A neighbour, Usama Saghir, told the police that the couple had been subjecting the girl to torture for the last couple of weeks.

The Samanabad police registered a case against both the suspects on the complaint of Saghir and handed over the case to the investigation police for further action.
