GWADAR: Calling for upholding the supremacy of constitution and free judiciary to ensure protection of human rights, National Party (NP) president Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has urged all mainstream political parties to forge unity and strengthen civilian rule in the country.

Speaking at a public gathering in the Tanzag area of Kech district on Wednesday, the National Party president said that unfortunately military dictators intermittently imposed marital laws in the country and did not let democratic and constitutional institutions to grow, which had pushed back the country from the development track.

“The civilised nations have reached the sky but our people are still deprived of basic facilities,” the NP leader said.

“The nation has rendered immense sacrifices for supremacy of democracy but after every 10 years a dictator has negated their aspiration.”

The National Party was the only political force in Balochistan which had been protecting the rights of people of the province, he said, adding that other parties were not capable of leading the Baloch people.

Praising the struggle of local leader Dr Mohammad Iqbal Baloch, Dr Malik said that the people of Tanzag had always supported the National Party and therefore he did not feel he was a stranger in the area.
