QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has said that his government will not compromise on the quality and standard of education and asked top officials in the education department to appoint teachers in those schools where there is a shortage of teachers.

Presiding over a meeting to review performance of the education department here on Friday, he urged senior officials o f the department to take steps to make functional those schools which were not operational due to different reasons, including non-availability of teachers. Mr Alyani stressed the need for an effective system to monitor presence of students and teachers in all schools. He said the provincial government was spending huge funds to provide modern educational facilities to students and warned teachers that the government would not tolerate their absence from their duty.

Secretary of Primary Education Mohammad Tayyab Lehri informed the meeting that there were 14,250 primary schools for boys and girls in the province and 1,623 of them were not functioning because of various reasons, including non-availability of teachers.

He briefed the meeting on working of different departments and their problems, information system, GIS profiling and real time monitoring of educational activities.

Provincial minister for higher education Mir Zahoor Buledi, provincial minister for education Muhammad Khan Lehri, officials of Unicef and other departments concerned attended the meeting.
