MITHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued notices to the federal and provincial departments as well as various banks in Tharparkar district asking them for information and data relating to the assets of the Malani family.

Such information should reach the FIA’s Hyderabad region office latest by Feb 7, the communication to the recipients said.

The FIA has specifically sought information and data regarding the work orders issued by the departments concerned to the Malani Construction Company, Mithi, owned by Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, from 2012 till date.

A complaint received by the FIA alleged that PPP MNA Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani had been involved in illegally amassing wealth through the work orders and indulging in money laundering during the period.

It is learnt that the departments and banks concerned had compiled details of activities and transactions involving the MNA and 15 of his business associates and three members of the Malani family have been asked to appear before an inquiry committee to clarify their positions.

Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday, Dr Malani said he, his associates and party workers were not afraid of such tactics resorted to by their political opponents. He said they were ready to face any such inquiries.
