SAHIWAL: One labourer died while another passed out on Wednesday because of gas leakage at an under-construction site on Qaboola Road in Arifwala.

Rescue 1122 personnel said Muhammad Qasim and Muhammad Musa, both of Multan, were employees with a private company.

They slept in the under-construction bank building. In the morning, bank staffers alerted Rescue 1122.

Rescuers said Qasim was found dead while Musa was shifted to the Arifwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment. The body was dispatched to Ada Shanan, Multan.

CONVICTION: Conviction rates of cases remained 67 per cent in 2018 in Sahiwal, according to a handout by the Public Prosecutor Department issued on Wednesday.

The department scrutinised 8,206 challans for courts after clearance from the police department.

In 2,581 cases, accused were convicted while in 1,291 cases accused got freed because of witnesses’ withdrawal.

It is said 3,812 cases were sent back to the department while in 522 cases, parties reached out of court settlement. Among the convicted people, 17 were handed down death and 10 life terms.
