I RECEIVED a letter from the Sindh Public Service Commission to appear for a physical fitness test as I had applied for the post of assistant superintendent prisons which falls under the home department.
The letter directed me to appear in the SPSC head office on Jan 7 in the morning. As my village is far from Hyderabad, I left my home a day earlier to be on time. At the test venue, I found more than a hundred candidates present and we were told to wait.
After a long wait, a clerk informed us that the SPSC did not have an instrument to measure the candidates’ height in centimetres and the test was postponed. He added that we would be informed about a fresh date.
I am wondering how the SPSC --a top-notch institution—supposed to recruits officers and bureaucrats for the province can be so careless and indifferent.
