KARACHI: A young man was shot dead and three others were injured in a clash between members of two groups over the management of a mosque in Mehmoodabad-5 on Saturday night, according to police and hospital officials.

They said four people with bullet injuries were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced one, Kashif Hussain, 35, dead on arrival.

The injured were identified as Yamin, 30; Adeel Afzal, 30; and Raja Hafeez, 44.

Soon after the incident, police and Rangers rushed to the area to maintain law and order.

IG Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of the incident and sought a report from the East SSP.

DIG East Amir Farooqi told Dawn that the mosque’s possession was given to one of the groups under the court orders. The mosque was handed to the group earlier in the day and members of the other group attacked men inside it at around 11pm, he added.
