Siemens, Volkswagen keen to invest in Pakistan's IT, auto sectors, says German envoy

German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler on Friday said his country's giant companies were interested to invest in diverse fields especially Information Technology and auto manufacturing.
“German giants like Volkswagen and Siemens have shown their desire to invest in Pakistan,” he said during a meeting with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Developmen Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, a press release said.
The German envoy, who called on Bukhari in Islamabad, discussed matters pertaining to bilateral interests with a special focus on importing Pakistani manpower by creating more work opportunities for them in Germany.
The two also discussed the impact of Brexit and the dynamics of the labour market in post-Brexit Germany. The ambassador said that there was an emerging need for mechatronics experts in German industries which would eventually prompt the requirement for mechatronics experts to be brought in from across the globe.
“German legislatures will pass laws for immigrant workers in March next year for the purpose,” the press release added.
Bukhari assured Kobler of Pakistan's interest in providing the required technical workforce to Germany on priority basis and the two decided to evolve a mechanism for the systematic export of Pakistani manpower to Germany.

Good news, indicating that prominent countries like Germany have faith and willingness to invest in IT, automobile and other industries. This also shows trurst and confidence on PM Imran Khan and his government - obviously, a honest and dedicated leader plays an important part in restoring TRUST and attracting foreign investment.

For the info of commentors, Siemens had been operating in Pakistan for many decades before 1947. Few years ago Siemens Pakistan was caught by CCP -competition commission of Pakistan and after thorough investigations into price fixation and cartilization with much smaller transformer manufacturers, siemens finally and voluntarily offered info to CCP and fine of upto PKR 1 billion. Siemens Germany then cut down its size and operations in Pakistan and sold off its largest industrial real estate in SITE Karachi. Am sure German ambassador is fully aware of this matter

@Anti-Corruption_Pakistani, The Siemens is already well established in Pak, and participate in private & public tenders, they are well accustomed in dealing the Pakistanis. As regards Volkwagen there are news about emissions test failures in US & EU too. Germany is totally banning Diesel Models due to pollutions. Pak is a perfect place to market Diesel Automobile, and that’s going to happen soon. The Mercedes Diesel Plant now in trash position in Germany will began working for Asian Markets, and Pak is included in that region.

There's good potential for investment, but we'll need more details on their nature. Moreover this seems to be a continuation of Pakistan exporting its human capital, instead of having them stay in the country and drive innovation.

Good News, I would request the government to imitate the Germans practical training on the industrial plants they hire every year instead of rolling out engineers and technical people with theoretical knowledge,the polytechnic intitutes in Pakistan are not doing a good job take help from the Germans and bring in new machinary to train the students and please stop these Students in Polytechnic schools take the example of the one in SITE karachi they have ruined it and the teachers please get them new knowledge.
