PROTEST: The hydro electric workers’ union on Tuesday held a procession outside the press club against the alleged embezzlement in workers’ fund, and demanded suspension of the basic membership of the former chairman of the union for his alleged involvement in the scam.

The Pesco workers marched on the road and chanted slogans against the union leaders involved in the irregularities.

Later, speaking at a news conference, the union’s divisional chairman Hazrat Faqir, divisional secretary Nasrullah Khan, joint secretary Pervez Khan and others alleged that Rs260,000 were given to Lower Dir Pesco workers from the provincial fund of the hydro union to be distributed among the internally displaced persons.

However, they alleged that the then hydro electric union chairman Yousaf Khan spent the amount on his personal business. They said the then chairman also collected Rs500 per employee as donation which was also embezzled. They said the former union leader had cheated Pesco workers and therefore his basic membership should be immediately cancelled.
