LANDI KOTAL: Trading activities with Afghanistan resumed at the Torkham border on Monday when the protesting clearing agents and transporters ended their five-day-long strike after successful negotiations with collector customs in Peshawar.

A delegation of the Torkham customs clearing agents met collector customs Saeed Jadoon with Torkham station assistant collector Sajid Mohmand, assistant commissioner, Landi Kotal, Mohammad Imran and office-bearers of both Sarhad and Khyber chambers of commerce and industries also in attendance.

Zar Qeef Khan, president of clearing agents association, said after the meeting that all their legitimate demands were accepted and they were given assurance about redressal of their grievances regarding undue obstructions in clearance of goods at the border crossing.

Mr Khan clarified that none of his association member was averse to use of Web Based One Custom system introduced at the border but insisted that the Collectorate of Customs must ensure high speed internet facilities and uninterrupted supply of electricity at their offices for effective functioning of the system.
