Accountability court orders confiscation of Shahbaz Sharif's son-in-law's assets
A Lahore accountability court on Thursday issued orders for the confiscation of assets of former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif's son-in-law, Imran Ali Yousaf.
Accountability Judge Muhammad Azeem issued the orders while hearing a petition filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which asked the court to attach Yousaf's assets.
Yousaf is accused of receiving illicit funds in excess of Rs12 million from Ikram Naveed, the former CEO of the Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC), and is the subject of a NAB probe.
He appeared before NAB investigators in April but has since skipped scheduled hearings and left the country for London. On August 7, he was declared a proclaimed offender by an Accountability Court.
"Yousaf has properties worth billions in Pakistan, he owns Ali Centre and Ali Town. He also has businesses called Ali and Fatima Developers and Ghaus Al Azeem Developers," the prosecutor said.
"He also owns 99 or 100 plots in Gulberg 3-A," the prosecutor continued, adding that Yousaf also owns one Madinah Feeds Mill.
A source had earlier told DawnNewsTV that the then CM’s son-in-law was also accused of "getting Naveed appointed as PPDC CEO, who subsequently allegedly committed massive corruption. NAB is quizzing Yousaf on the information provided about him by Ikram Naveed.”
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had already carried out a probe against Naveed and Yousaf in 2016. It declared Naveed guilty of embezzling Rs450 million.
The ACE in its investigation had found that Naveed had purchased 19 properties in his and his family members’ names and also unearthed his and his family members' property worth over Rs1 billion. The property has been attached and their bank accounts frozen.

Don't let him leave PK. How did he amass so much?
Don't let corrupt family of Nawaz Sharif and Shabaz Sharif get away all the looted money. By the way, will all confiscated property be auctioned and recovered money be spent for the welfare of the poor people? Let's see, how this story progress or will die down after a while!
Most unfortunate that PPP JUI & other opposition parties are defending Shahbaz Sharif whose son in Law did all this using none other but his Father in Law authority.
@ahamed - He has already left Pakistan with the collusion of the authority.
the new Panama Papers release today should help sink the Sharif family clan boat once and for all. their supporters claiming political victimization need to run and hide in shame.
Each and every member of Shariffs family have looted the country and there still are people who are taking out processions in their favour. Shame on them.
All his wealth would have been outside of country. Authorities will be able to confiscate only one Toyota corolla and a 10 Marla house because they are shareef.
didnt he do a land swap for the plots? it seems MalIk Riaz is going to get a sweet deal from the SCP.
@ahamed relatives in high places.
Its coming out of woodwork - unbridled corruption.
WOW! No wonder he is a son in law of Shabaz. Politicians or their children having a worth of billions of rupees has become a joke in Pakistan. Somebody should tell the masses where NAB was hiding during last ten years or whether they were scared and allowed looting right under their noses.
These are only the small fries. There are people with trillions of corruption funds and fortunes for which they have made foolproof arrangements to be safe and far from the eyes of accountability sensors.
Everybody’s property can be attached but not Musharraf who is absconding for many years after lying to the court.
@M. Saeed - Don't twist facts. He is no 'small fry'!
Amazing , the level of corruption , how was all this allowed to happen.Seems like everyone in the previous govt or related to it wanted to be a billionaire.
If son-in-law was raking in billions, imagine what his own son must be doing.
@Ash2000 Mushraf should also face the court. However, there is no charge of corruption against him so far. The charge against him is that he broke the constitution two times. Once when he took over and the other time when he declared the emergency. Yes there are charges but But Ayub, Yahya and Zia also did so and what he did by suspending the judges declaring emergency was wrong as well. This is all a bad management, illegal, wrong and very bad but not Treason. Musharaf did not shake hand with India conspiring against Pakistan and its Army.
@Ash2000 - Why Indians are so obsessed with Musharraf?
Time for UK to stop protecting corrupt individuals.
Imran Ali Yousaf is a prime target. Nawaz and Shabaz (now older men) have both been transferring their wealth into the hands of their children and family to avoid accountability and avoid taxation.
@ahamed _ Greed has a name.
Good news. Please cash all his properties before one of our Courts give them a stay order for a century.
@Saif Zulfiqar .... You said, "There still are people who are taking out processions in their favour". Because they were getting greased. They act only in their own self interest, not out of loyalty to the Sharif family.
One by one looters of Pakistan should face the musiac and if necessary be punished for their miserable and criminal enterprise.
It seem that we are now living in corrupt free Pakistan as all the corrupt cases of past are opening up and corrupts will be tried in court and looted money recovered.
@ALI --Exactly the same way Mr. Dar was helped by Mr. Abbasi to flee to London on his private jet. They are accomplices in crime.
When are they going to cry like babies that "DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER". Finally NAB is catching up some speed although looking at the mountains of corruption and cadre of corrupt politicians, bussinessmen, civil servants, judges and even some from the forces, journalists,TV anchors and MULLAHS NAB needs to increase its speed fifty times.
This is what is really needed to send a very strong message to looters and corrupt politicians. Take away the assets they amassed through corruption.
NAB is just scratching the surface. Dig deeper.
@ALI Please provide information when he left the country then we shall ask NAB to inform us why his name was not placed on ECL before that.
@ahamed He already fled to London in his in laws government.
When it rains, it pours! What about Shahbaz Sharif himself and his sons?
Let;s not forget the $billions that NS has helped himself to. No doubt also helped his sons and son-in-law too.
Freedom to NAB to act by the PTI government is showing results. Well done PTI, well done NAB - now get it to logical conclusion and get convictions by courts fast.
Still no shame in PMLN apologists or camp
@ahamed He already fled from the country.
Our country is so full of crooks! I really cannot understand how these people can embezzle so much money and buy assets from funds that belong to the poor people of Pakistan. Can't they see the little children begging on the streets, widows, old folks, disabled people suffering? How cruel one has to be to take the money that belong to such people and buy assets for oneself. How can they sleep at night?
If proven guilty, assets of people involved in corruption need to be confiscated and they should be barred from holding public office for life.
For the sake of our poor helpless people, I hope IKs government with the support of public of Pak can tackle the issue of corruption and incompetence in public offices.
Cortupt to the core. Termites eating the country from inside.
Please accelerate accountability from these criminals.
Sharif brothers and all of their extended family members as well as their in-laws are proving to be a well organized group of criminals. Don’t let them get away. Elimination of corruption is a critical success factor for the country
Very sad the son-in-law of Shahbaz Sharif. while son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif also facing similiar charges, the father-in-law of Maryam Nawaz also booked, and he’s absconding. What happen to in-laws, why they are becoming out laws so frequently.
@Right Read it again please.
Is there even one person in Sharif family who is honest? Consficiate all the illegal assets and throw them in jail for decades. Do not differentiate between male and female members, if females have assets they cannot account for, throw them in jail also. No NRO and no deal.
Well done . 1 by 1
Take everything he has and give it back to Pakistan.
It is amazing to watch the PML-Ners on TV eho are either in denial mode or are willingly silent on the corruption. I fail to understand how they can look in the mirror every day.
Justice will prevail, justice will prevail. By cleaning the house of parasites, the country will be able to pay off it's debts and still have funds left over. On with the cleaning!
@Harmony-1© " Why Indians are so obsessed with Musharraf?"
Indians are obsessed with all Pakistani matters. Just check out comments section of any news item on this website.
He is innocent, long live pmln
@Syed A kazmi I ah guessing / hoping once they are done probing Sharif family the goverment go after PPP . if our country can get the money that PPP has stolen, well , the country would be in a great state ( debt wise).
99 to 100 lots in Gulberg-3A ? If you have even the slightest idea of how much each plot is worth, that's a lot of money, an average person in Pakistan can barely afford half a plot, much less 100 of them. I don't know how he was able to afford so much real estate, at his age any way. Something smells funny here.
‘The ACE in its investigation had found that Naveed had purchased 19 properties in his and his family members’ names and also unearthed his and his family members' property worth over Rs1 billion. The property has been attached and their bank accounts frozen.’ "He also owns 99 or 100 plots in Gulberg 3-A," the prosecutor continued, adding that Yousaf also owns one Madinah Feeds Mill.
These Sharifs and Zardaris are like cancer within, eating away at the fabric of society. Then people wonder how we are in an economic crisis. Shame on those who voted for them.
Ali Yousaf also has obtained exclusive distribution rights for Windows 10. Furthermore he also owns 5 200 Square Yard plots on moon.
@Syed A kazmi PPP isn't favour of any accountability because Zardari and family also have serious cases against them.
Government knows that that all these thugs will leave the country?
Why Britain keep accepting them and do not send them back? Please have an arrangement with these countries. Bring all money back as well.
When charged take their passports?
people who supporting Sharffe family deserve No water, No electricity, No jobs, No economy, No quality of life these people deserve depression, darkness and then these people complain about no quality of life in pakistan, O well keep voting supporting Shareef clan you deserve all bad stuff
@NACParis "Where was NAB hiding for the last 10 years?" that is an excellent question sir! Anyone from NAB please answer this question. This is a million dollar question.
All this was happening when Sharifs were ruling the country. Under the protection of father in law, Shahbaz Sharif, son in law Imran Ali Yousaf became a genius enterpreneur. Even if you confiscate his properties in Pakistan, he has enough holdings , fat foreign accounts. He can still live lavishly.
the best option for govt at the moment is to take all the properties back from these looters and sell it off. as for getting their looted money from abroad will be much harder. swiss authorities have already more or less shut the door..other safe tax havens are doing the same. the reason is the money is too great and it breaks their bank. the other main reason is the big elephant doesn't want pakistan to stand on its own feet. the evidence is escalating $ rate and the crash in KSE couple of days ago !!
I cannot comprehend why some still favor deposed Nawaz and PML (N) when entire Sharif family right from top to bottom has directly or indirectly looted the country and some of the looters have proved to be extra smart that they have already left Pakistan and cannot be caught and put behind the bars. Extradition is the next option but very much regretfully due to much legality the option is not that easy to get them back to be honest though PTI is trying in this regard but perhaps it will fail though I pray that the looters must be brought back to Pakistan to face investigation. The only option left with the government is to confiscate their properties and assets but there too they have edge over the government simply because the crooked are much more smarter than NAB hawks and they have already syphoned huge money out of Pakistan and deposited in foreign banks outside Pakistan therefore even if their properties and assets are confiscated it does not hurt them the least. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi
While not favouring them but simply wondering that they're not sole usurpers. Almost, everyone who has some access to nation sources have tried in some way or the other to exploit this country. There must be a treason case also against such people. Anyone who takes or offers bribe must also be given strict punishment. Anyone who adopts unfair means must be terminated immediately.
He looted country's precious money with heartlessness,he must behind the bar. Government should effort to bring back Pakistan as well his companion.
